EVALUATION DRAFT 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product was able to use the codes and conventions of a magazine. With this i used pictures of who will be featured on the magazine such as the duo 'Reverse.' The duo was wearing plain but daring clothing, minimal makeup but bold lips e.g. red and purple. Their posture was relaxed and i used a mid shot, which most magazines use such as 'Q.' My media product also used captions/headlines such as "Exclusive interviews" or "Beyonce's style guide." These will tell the audience what is featured in my magazine. My magazine also uses the title "IV" with the slogan "Independent vibe magazine" this is to seem more like a real magazine which most use. I also have a pug at the top right of the magazine with "Win £100 worth of ITunes vouchers", these portray a front page of a magazine. In my contents i used a range of contents and pages e.g. 35 pages featured with stories such as interviews, gig dates and chances to listen to new music. I also used some pictures at the top right of the page to show the audience what will be featured in the magazine. On my double Page spread i use images like all magazines do. My magazine then features a pull quote of the interview and a column alignment/layout for the interview, to look like a real magazine. Throughout the whole magazine i use the same house style e.g. pink, white and navy so the magazine is continuous for the audience.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?/ who would be the audience for your media product?

My audience is aimed at young adults preferably aged 15-25 due to my survey answers and my target audience. It is aimed at both genders but may fall more onto the female audience due to who is being featured in the magazine and results from my survey, My magazine adressess them formally but fits to my age range and 'social group' who is my audience, The duo 'Reverse' may also relate to my audience due to how they are presented on the magazine e.g. their style (what they are wearing or genre of music). The font of the duo is also cartoon like and may attract a younger audience. Also what is featured in the magazine may also relate to my audience e.g. exclusive interviews of big stars and chances to win things.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I would distribute my media product to various places to ensure i have a wide audience. I would design an online subscription so people are able to get the magazine delievered to their doorstep. The internet is becoming a popular and easy way to shop. I would also sell my product in supermarket stores and websites as they are a popular way to shop for every day products and demands, Supermarkets sell nearly everything so it would be easy for my audience to visit them to buy my product. I would then sell in retail shops such as WH Smith, newsagents, book stores and music stores. Magazines would be one of the main products to sell in these stores so people would have easy access to my product.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I was able to attract my audience by using a bold image which features an independent artist which has an independent genre, this will be able to attract people who enjoy more than one music genre. I was also able to use bold titles and headlines which stand out against the background. Most headlines feature things such as "chances to win" and a list of names which people may listen to or follow as an artist. Also using the same house style throughout may entertain the audience.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Although i have been able to edit pictures before, serif page plus was new to me. I have learnt various tools such as outlining, cutting tool etc. These have helped me achieve my media product.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I have been able to learn new ICT skills such as the different tools on Serif page plus. I have also learnt different ways to improve my product and keep it up to date.
