How did your research into genre help you with your
production?
Genre
research helped me produce my magazine in many ways. It showed me to produce an
on-going house style for my magazine. E.g. Q produced an on-going house style
for its indie genre such as using indie artists, layouts and colour themes
(red, blue and black). It also helped me know what to put into my production
e.g. my artists and what’s featured in the magazine.
How did your research into audience contribute to your
production work?
My research
into audience helped me appeal to my audience; using indie artists e.g. ‘duo
Reverse’ and colours (such as pink, blue and white) to make it stand out to my
audience. My audience research also helped me choose the pricing for my
magazine because in my survey I asked in an interview how much they were
willing to spend on a magazine. The result was spread out evenly; 2 out of 6
said they would spend £0-£1, 2 out of 6 said they would spend £1-£3 and 2 out
of 6 said they were willing to spend £3-£5. My audience research also helped me
decide on which gender to base my magazine on, how long my magazine should be
and how often they would buy them.
What pre-production planning techniques did you employ
(scripting, storyboarding, shot-listing, etc.)?
Whilst
planning for my magazine I used a story board for my mise-en-scene. I noted
down colour scheme I would use, my subject (what they were wearing and facial
expressions.) I also story boarded my inspirations and ideas and fonts for my
magazine. E.g. ‘Clash’ and ‘Indie’ magazine were my inspirations. I then
planned my layout and design. I used a plain background and shapes to structure
my magazine.
How effective was your planning – how did it help you in the production
phase?
My planning was effective as it helped me start to produce my magazine. Planning showed me what my audience wanted and what designs would work well in my magazine. It helped me choose my layout and house style. However what I originally planned for my magazine wasn't what my magazine resulted in using e.g. I chose bright colours but in the end I used duller colours such as navy and light pink.
What did you learn from planning your first production that helped you to improve your planning for the second?
I learnt that planning was vital and helped me achieve a better final product. It also made me more confident in producing my final product as I had planning to help me.
How did you use audience feedback to influence your production work while it was in progress?
My audience feedback helped me product my magazine. They told me what they felt looked good and what would work well together. They also helped me choose the pricing for my magazine and how much they were willing to spend.
